You Can Search This Entire Site! You may now search this entire web site. Use the Search Box below. Some advice: If you are looking for a Murnane connection, do NOT use the name Murnane; use an in-law's name, a first name, a known home-town, etc. There are more than 2,000 pages on this site and every one has at least one Murnane reference. If you have problems with the Search Box, please let us know. |

The Murnane Information Exchange and Bulletin Board includes eight sections: the Current Bulletin Board (which you are now reading) and seven archived sections. Because of the volume of mail and the download time, it is more convenient for most visitors if we divide the Bulletin Board. The most recent division was on 3 January 2007. Archived sections, which include all previous messages organized in reverse chronological order, can be found by following the appropriate links below.
The Current Bulletin Board includes messages posted since 3 January 2007. It follows this announcement.
You can link to the seven archives from this page, and all are searchable.
Archive One includes postings from April 1, 1997, to August 15, 1997.
Archive Two includes postings from August 16, 1997 to December 31, 1997.
Archive Three includes postings from January 1, 1998 to October 19, 1998. (There were no new postings between October 19 and December 14, 1998).
Archive Four includes postings from 14 December 1998 to 20 May 1999.
Archive Five includes postings from 4 June 1999 to 31 December 1999.
Archive Six includes postings from 1 January 2000 to 31 December 2000.

Searching for family of Frances Murnane, Fairview, Dublin ![]()
I was browsing through the web and found your website which I
found to be brilliant!!
I am searching for my mother's natural mother or family. She was born and
given up for adoption in 1936. I think Frances was 16 years old when she
gave birth to my mother. She called my mother Mary Frances Murnane.
She belonged to Rotunda Girls Aid Society in Dublin, Ireland. My mother
was
born 30th or 31st May 1936 and according to her birth certificate Frances was
from Fairview in Dublin. My mother's biological father's surname was Daly.
I would appreciate it if you could post this on your bulletin board as I'm
anxious to find family that we know are out there somewhere.

My father was Marshall Murnan (without the e). He told me that his family was from Cork County Ireland, and when they arrived in the US they dropped the "e". I have recently been trying to find other Murnan's in Maryland, which is where I live. I really don't have a clue as to how to search for relatives. I was wondering if I could get some info. I would really appreciate any help you might be able to provide.

I'm very happy to hear the Murnane site is being "reactivated." I've greatly missed the regular updates from folks around the world and learning more on how my family fits into the larger mosaic. I'm part of one of the Murnane families from the Albany / Troy region of upstate New York. My mother, Joyce Murnane (jvmurnane@msn.com), has done a good amount of research on several previous generations and is always on the lookout for new information.
Here's a little upstate NY tidbit that may have little or no significance to anyone beyond this region: On the east side of the Hudson River in Troy, Murnane is still sometimes pronounced "Murnan" - as if there's no "e." However, on the Albany side of the river, it's pronounced "Murnane." I'm not sure if this has to do with the Troy Irish dialect or perhaps something to do with a derivation of how our family's name was previously spelled/pronounced. It's something that catches my attention from time to time.

Not Sure If You Are Distant Member Of My
Rowley family?

My late grandfather was William Rowley and he died in 1941 aged 61. We are
not sure if he was born in 1879 or 1880, and I remember tracing some time ago
that the only William Rowley I could find born in Ireland in those years was
born in Oola, Tipperary, to an Edmond Rowley, and from memory, an Ann McGrath.
It is some years since I looked at this whole thing, and then I only looked at
it briefly.
My mother, who died earlier this year, was William Rowley's youngest child. She
was born in 1920 in Dublin, where her 3 sons were also born and still live !!!
Anyway, there may be no connection, but Rowley is not a common name in Ireland .
Do please revert if you have any knowledge of a connection.

Jonathan, we have Rowleys in our family through marriage. In fact, a large contingent of them joined our Murnane/Marnane family reunion in Tipperary and Cork in 2002. I'll find some information in my records and send it to you.

Texas Murnanes Came From England
We are the Thomas G. Jr. and Thomas G. III Murnanes of Fort Worth and San Angelo Texas, respectively. The first Murnane in our heritage was Thomas Joseph Murnane born in London, England, 24 April,1852 He immigrated to the U.S. in 1872 via St. Louis, Mo. and settled in Dallas, TX. We have no early records of the Murnanes in England other than the father of Thomas Joseph being born in England in 1826. Thomas Joseph attended St. Charles school in London. The family is of Roman Catholic heritage.
