Homestead of the Murnane Clan of Townland
of Cappauniac in County Tipperary, in the
foothills of the Galtee Mountains. Murnanes/
Marnanes have lived here for several hundred
years.
Edmond
and Johanna Marnane were parents of 12 children.
This photo was produced in 1894 or 1895. Several of the children
had already left for the USA and their images were added to the
photo. Seven of the 12 Marnanes/Murnanes of Cappauniac
moved to the USA between 1883 and 1910. Most settled in
Chicago. The others stayed in Tipperary or moved to Cork.

This plaque was erected in 1990 to commemorate
the arrival of the Murnanes at Warrnambool. It is
located at "Murnane Bay," on the Southwest Coast
of Victoria, Australia.
| Descendants of
James Murnane of Cappauniac in County Tipperary got together on 30 July 2000 as they have
done every year for the past 17 years. Rain interfered for only the second time but the wet weather didn't dampen any spirits. |

is holding their daughter, Anna. Catherine's son, Will Cooney, is in the

front. The photo was taken in 1870. Catherine was the

.
This photo of Patrick Murnane, 1808-1903, is
the only picture known of any of the six Murnane brothers who made
the journey from
Ireland to Australia in the mid-1800s. (See "Fruitful Exile" in the Library
section). He was the brother of three Murnanes, Michael, Thomas and John, who were
convicted and transported to Australia in 1836 as convicts. Patrick migrated to Australia
as a free settler and lived in western Victoria as a farmer. He outlived his five brothers
and until quite recently was still a living memory of some of the Murnanes in Australia.
